Teen Volunteer Guidelines

The Twinsburg Public Library has the following expectations for our teen volunteers:

  • Volunteers will be entering grades 9-12 in an area high school.
  • Volunteers must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently.

While volunteering in the Twinsburg Public Library, volunteers:

  • Should dress appropriately. We follow the Twinsburg High School dress code.
  • Must be courteous and act responsibly to each other, TPL staff, and all library patrons. You are expected to follow all library policies for behavior.
  • Be mindful of conversations while performing volunteer duties. You will be in the children’s department: Inappropriate language and behavior will result in immediate dismissal.
  • May not sleep while on the desk.
  • Must not socialize with other friends in the library. Stay at the desk; if your friends are visiting you, you should ask them to leave.
  • May not eat or drink beverages, other than water, while at the desk. If you need to take a snack break, let a librarian know.
  • May not use cell phones during volunteer time. This includes texting, Facebook, or other social media apps. Keep your phones off the desk at all times. Volunteers may not use any electronic devices to watch YouTube or other videos.

During Summer Reading Club:

  • Volunteers will be permitted to work a maximum of 10 hours per week, after they have attended a volunteer training session. You may begin signing up for volunteer hours after completion of the volunteer training session. (Must attend each year of service.)
  • Time slots are generally for two-hours.
  • Check in and check out at the Teen Crossings desk, not with Children’s staff.
  • YOU are expected to keep track of your schedule. If you realize you cannot come in for a shift, you must contact Teen Crossings at 330-425-4268x6, before your shift begins.
  • No show-no calls will result in the loss of volunteer eligibility.
  • Teen Crossings staff are Mark Simon, Kayana Martin, and Beth Slade.
